Our anniversary drawing continues!  This month’s winner is Cathy Satterwhite, who has won a great plant selection:

  • Stewartia pseudocamellia ~ This small tree will get to a mature height of 25-35 feet, and boasts colorful flaking bark.  It blooms in summer with fragrant white 2-inch blossoms, as well as having good fall color.  Just about the perfect tree.
  • Verbena Homestead Purple ~ This evergreen perennial is perfect for the front of border gardens or in baskets.  It blooms all summer and into fall with rich purple blossoms.  A great addition to any garden.
  • Viburnum plicatum ‘Summer Snowflake’ ~ This is a deciduous shrub which will attain a height of 4-6 feet.  It has fragrant white blooms in the summer, which are held on horizontal branches forming distinct layers.  In the fall it sports bright red fruit.

Congratulations, Cathy!    And to all you readers:  don’t forget to fill out our green monthly drawing tickets every time you are here.

We are having monthly drawings to celebrate our 15th anniversary - this is so much fun giving away prizes!  Thiclematis-montana-rubens31s month’s winner is  Barbara Skeels, who will take home a great collection:  a 5 gallon Clematis montana rubens (see photo at right); some E.B. Stone Sure Start to get new plants off to a healthy start;  and two tickets to the Inviting Vines private garden tour on May 23rd (see blog post on April 27th about this wonderful tour).   This beautiful perennial vine will grow to 15-20 feet, and will be loaded with showy, fragrant, soft pink blossoms.  Vines are a great element in any garden – I encourage you to look for a place to add that vertical focal point to your garden.

And the icing on the cake, since we have such a grand selection of Japanese maples this year, we are throwing in a large Acer palmatum ‘Tamukeyama.’   This tree is the connoisseur’s choice in red dissectums – a ‘Great Plant Picks’ plant!  It makes a fantastic statement in the garden, and is a no-brainer to grow.  (For those of you who might be interested, we have more of these in our sales section!)

Congratulations again to Barbara.  And to everyone else:  don’t forget to fill out a drawing entry ticket every time you visit us.    We’ll be selecting a new winner in 30 days!

Congratulations to Liam McLaughlin, who is our first winner. He takes home an Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Crimson Queen’, valued at $99.  This slow-growing laceleaf maple has deep red leaves all summer long, creating a dramatic focal point in the garden.  As with most Japanese maples, it will thrive in a container, making it ideal for a deck or small patio.
