As you may know, at Farmington Gardens we built a demonstration vegetable garden in 2008.  Our aim was to showcase how to grow a variety of edibles in a confined space – and to do it in an artistic, colorful, fun manner.  We believe that vegetable gardening is something that almost everyone can do, and with the high costs of healthy foods these days, it is definitely a strategy for helping the family budget.  This blog space will have updates about what’s going on in our vegetable garden at FG, and if there are problems that arise (pests or disease), we will talk about how we are addressing them.  We invite you to stop by and see what’s going on as the season progresses – we will show strategies for growing vertically, so that you can maximize limited space; we will show how to have successive plantings for continuous harvests; and much more!  I have been tracking our costs of seeds, plants and materials for this garden as well as the harvests – so we will be sharing those figures later as well.  I think you will be surprised to learn the yields from a small traypack of veggie starts!
